This wine collection marks a tribute to the original visionaries who transformed winemaking in the Willamette Valley by dreaming up The Studio as a collaborative, first-of-its-kind winemaking facility. Launched in 2018 with a Pinot Noir crafted by Eric Hamacher (previously of Lazy River Vineyards), Founders has since evolved under the expert guidance of winemaker Mel Liebeck. Mel’s extensive experience, gained from regions as diverse as Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and France, brings a unique perspective to the Founders portfolio.

Mel’s journey in the wine industry is marked by her deep commitment to excellence and her passion for exploring diverse winemaking styles, and she balances unwavering diligence with a sharp sense of humor. With a Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences (Oenology) from the University of Adelaide, she has honed her skills at renowned wineries such as Leeuwin Estate, Yalumba, Oyster Bay, and Giant Steps, as well as with Willamette Valley greats like Adelsheim and Ponzi. Her experience in both Old and New World wine regions has shaped her approach with the Founders wines, where she crafts not only Pinot Noir but now also a range of deep reds and bubbles crafted with fruit sourced from both within and outside of the Willamette Valley, including Cabernet, Syrah, and a sparkling Rosé.

The Founders collection reflects Mel’s creative winemaking, blending traditional techniques with unique varietals and innovative approaches. Her dedication ensures that each bottle of Founders wine is a testament to the pioneering spirit of The Carlton Winemaker’s Studio.
